Program Notes

We come spinning out of nothingness, scattering stars
the stars form a circle and in the center we dance. -Rumi

Fantasy is a sketch based loosely on the imagery evoked through Rumi’s writing.  The musical elements include variations on an irregular ostinato, instrument combinations with a focus on timbre, and melodic and harmonic gestures gathered from piano improvisation sessions.  I hope to portray a whimsical and improvisatory quality in the music.
